Chickens

Well, I don't know any Murphy's law truisms right now but I have some chicken pictures to share! We got baby chicks 6 weeks ago and we are finally putting these 2 acres we have to work! Dad came and built a coop for us. Therefore we named it "Pop's Perch" (also a take-off on how we all love perch at Lakeside! :)

Thanks for the posting, Sarah. Good pictures. I'm interested in how the project got started and look forward to learning how it develops over time. You said you're putting your 2 acres to work. That sounds like the birds won't be just pets - to provide eggs for breakfast or meat on the table perhaps?

That sure is a spiffy chicken coop - kudo's to you Mike! There are many Murphy's Laws - one that is quoted often that I dont subscribe to is "If anything can go wrong - it will." Hrrumph!

The chicks are getting big! How long until they're laying eggs?

Well, I had friends that moved to a small farm and had NO experience at all. We decided to take the plunge together and raise some chickens ON HER FARM for eggs. We decided to go in on this together. BUT my animal loving children decided we should keep some chicks at our house (worried about the younger kids hurting them) and it bloomed from there. Next thing you know my dad spends the entire visit here building for me!! (He's the best!! :) ) They have to be 20 weeks to lay eggs so we still have 14 to go but they are really relaxing to watch. They LOVE Emma and come running when any of us go out to see them. Who knew?
