Hello family!

Hi everyone! This is a fun way to connect....everyone needs to add some pictures! The Schwartz family is doing well. School is in full swing and Alex is in a Christian school this year. He has made the adjustment well, but we will ALL miss our yearly Lakeside trip..this would have been year 9!!!

I just made a transition into part-time working with a new non-profit started by our close friends. I will be their Administrator/Development Officer though all of us are volunteers until January. I'm taking some courses on Grant Writing at our local university and I'm excited about this new phase. We are still working on the website but you can look at http://www.missionclarksville.com/

Hannah is 14 now, Alex 12, Emma 8. I'll add some pictures.

Richard is doing well too and we hope everyone has a great fall!

Sarah,

Great pictures. Thanks. What does your non-profit do? You may want to touch base with Maureen. She began working for the Philadelphia Foundation last March. TPF manages over 750 funds worth about $350 million. They make grants to other non profits in the area. Maureen is in the development side and also manages a woman's philanthorpy network.

Wow! Amazing! That's great advice. Mission Clarksville's purpose is "to equip and empower young people to be agents of social change in our community." That will be done through a volunteer campaign in a local school, and mostly through the Food Initiative which brings kids from "both sides of the track" in our community together to plant a community garden. They will be paid internships during which the youth will learn public speaking, money and leadership skills. They will work the garden through the season and then use the harvest to 1)contribute to our local food bank 2)Learn mico-business by making salsa, etc. for the local farmer's market and 3) run an organic CSA (vegetable co-op) This is patterned after the Boston Food Project which you can google.

Does TPF only fund your area?

Yes, the TPF only funds in the 5 county Philadelphia metro area. However, there are numerous community foundations around the country. I'll ask Maureen if she knows of any in your area.
