We had the privilege to attend the 110th Army-Navy game in Philadelphia this past Saturday. Here are some pictures from the pre-game events. The stands look somewhat empty because it was still a couple of hours before the game began when the cadets and midshipmen marched in. About 15 parachutists dropped into the stadium, and the 4 aircraft overflying are V-22 Opsrey tilt rotor special operations aircraft. The first picture is the West Point cadets. The second picture is the Annapolis midshipmen.
We have a family connection to this game. Truman Oscar Murphy, West Point class of 1891 played center for the Army team. He is your great, great or great, great, great uncle depending upon you generation. He would be my great grandfather's brother. I have a write up of his career from the 70th Annual Report of the Association of Graduates of the United States Military Academy, 1939 in pdf format if you would like to see it. Send me an e-mail.

Thanks for the posting, Scott. The blog site had been without one for some time. Those are good pictures. And I suppose the story about Truman Oscar will be new to some readers. He played in the first Army Navy game. Navy won it.
Around here (Ft. Campbell, army town!) we had LOTS of people watching this game. Glad you could go Uncle Scott!
Poppop...I'm keeping up with your web page so don't stop! :)
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
I did not know that connection, thanks for sharing!
If a member[s] of this blog is/are interested in having a copy of Truman Oscar Murphy's 1891 West Point picture, and/or a 1921 passport picture of Col. Murphy and his wife Katherine Margaret Terman Murphy and/or a passport picture of their daughter Evelyn, her husband, West Pointer Sylvester DeWitt Downs and their two [then very young] children, I'll be happy to forward it/them along. I also have a picture of his father and mother, John Fowler and Ann "Anna" Cline Murphy.
I am interested in any photo's others may have of this Murphy family [Mary Ellen, Charles E., Albert R., Lillie May] including John Fowler Murphy's first wife Mary Keith and their sons Henry Keith Mutphy and John Andrew Murphy.
